Art Worth Buying…
As many would know this weekend is the Open House weekend in South Freo and its a great idea, to show a lot of art at once, of varying styles in interesting houses. Click here for more info. Jo Darvell’s paintings in the styled house were my favourite. If you are going down to see open house today have a look in a small gallery at 330 South Terrace called Early Work Gallery.
This work will also be on display for a couple of weeks longer so if you miss it today there is still time. There are 4 artists with work on display. I want to show you the work of Harvey Mullen.
Harvey is my friend and he will be exhibiting in the group show with me and 5 other printmakers at Heathcote, next May. Craig and I bought one of his paintings, (this one in fact). Harvey is not very well known in Perth because he is from the UK and is more well known in Scotland, but wow can he paint. (Also he hasn’t got much of a web presence so good luck googling him!) I have known his etchings for years, and have seen some of his large abstract oil paintings before. These are much smaller works, cloud-scapes; they are beautiful, jewel like. Painterly, with a rich colour pallet. Strong and delicate at the same time. Stand back and they look ultra realistic come close and you will see a mass of energetic brush strokes that belie the intense observation that is needed to create work like this.
A modern day Turner, well worth a look.

Now I’ll get back to organising my studio for my open studio on the 28th and 29th November, save the date – I’ll be opening my art studio at my home in Spearwood for people to come and see, more about this soon.
