Day 2 of Making Albany Artist in Residence
I drew this drawing in my sketch book, at first I was going to put landscape in and around the figure, but yesterday it was raining hard and nowhere I could go. Usually if I was home I would look on the internet for inspiration but the connection in the house here is not very good; so I went to the Albany library.
Going to the library for inspiration reminded me of being at art school 25 years ago, pre-internet. I
did the same as I did at art school, never looked anything up just walked to the 700’s, see what jumped out at me. I found a book on William Morris and another book on design for that era and took heaps of photocopies. Now I have a plan for the first drypoint, which I will start making today.
I have also incorporated a window from Mary Thompson House in the body of the figure. And took some other photos of the Albany town hall which I think will be part of subsequent pieces (all going to a very loose plan)
