Day 7 The Stories Behind the Pictures – Poured like Dreams between Silence
A dream is like an alternate reality. The rules are different to the waking world. A story, a wisdom,a fantastic place. The Jungian idea of dreams containing unconscious wisdom is embodied in this work. In this dream, Alice dreams the rabbit whose cup is magically filled. Dreams provide a kind of nourishment to waking life. When I was a child I spent much of my primary school day dreaming, it was my favourite place to be. Now as a parent I can see how frustrating I would have been. This dreamy place is the place of creativity, however it is not recognised by our society and is cetainly not encouraged.
This is a quote by Dr Ric Spencer, from a previous essay about my Alice images.
“Understanding Alice pits the dreamlike nature of the world against the reality of life being a very real set of circumstances.”
