handmade things. I have Just put up 4 linocuts and 4 drypoints.
This new store is the brainchild of Rowena – herself a jeweler, who took her idea of creating a retail space in Fremantle for local artists and craftspeople to fruition. Located in the west end of High Street (between the High Street Mall and the Roundhouse) it is packed with cool arty stuff.  So have a look especially if you are in Freo for the Easter Weekend Street Arts Festival.

My work is just behind the counter which I think is a pretty good spot.My Artwork at the Artisan Store

These four linocuts (as with all my printmaking) are completely hand made from the first drawing in my sketch book to carving the lino, printing on my hand turned press and then hand colouring with  inks. I made the first one in this series when my youngest sister got married. When she was 3 or 4 she used to pretend to marry the boy who lived 2 doors down, she used to sit in the back and he would ride her around in circles. The tricycle was the same one that I had, each of my siblings had ridden it (5 of us). After I had made it, everyone who saw it had a tricycle story to share, it was a first freedom pedaling under your own steam, or whizzing down a hill a bit faster than you thought, nearly loosing control- or stacking it.
Trike linos saved-1_edited-1So I made a couple more for the series with the idea of connecting people to their own childhood memories. Here is a photo of 2 of the hand carved blocks. All the work is for sale the linocuts are $280 framed and $210 unframed. My next blog will be about the Drypoints.
