My first Day as Albany Artist in Residence
I arrived in Albany yesterday to be the artist in residence for 2 weeks run by the Vancouver Arts Centre. I am planning on gathering info and doing some drawings which will become drypoint prints for the Place exhibition in May at Heathcote Gallery in Melville. The exhibition is titled Seven Printmakers Respond to Place. I am planning to include the Albany landscape in some of my artworks.
As artist in residence I get to stay in Mary Thomson House which is a large weatherboard house next to the Vancouver Arts Centre. There is a section of the house which is partitioned off as a one bedroom apartment, and this is where I’ll be staying for the next 2
weeks. I also have access to a printmaking press at the Vancouver Arts Centre and access to the communal part of Mary Thomson House.
Here is a pic of the inside of the little apartment, clean and basic.
I am now off to have a general look around the Albany landscape, take my sketch book and get some photos, see what inspires me.
