New Linocut for Understanding Alice Exhibition
This is the newest Linocut for my Exhibition Understanding Alice at the Firestation Print Studio in Melbourne opening on September 25th. The title is “An Ugly Baby Makes a Rather Handsome Pig”
Those who know the story know at one stage Alice is given a baby to hold and in her Arms it slowly morphs into a pig Alice remarks “If it had grown up it would have made a dreadfully ugly child: but it makes a rather handsome pig.” It all about context, what is deemed bad in one circumstance can seem good in another. I was struck by the contemporary nature of one thing morphing into another, you can now get an app to do what Carrol conceived in 1863. I love the irreverence of the humour. In my linocut the wallpaper is taken from a William Morris Design complete with rabbit.
