Margaret Olley has Died
Sydney artist Margaret Olley died at the age of 88 at her home while still working towards an exhibition.
I love Margaret Olley’s painting. To me she seemed to be able to paint realism while keeping a looseness and spontaneity which many artists of that genre do not achieve. The vibrance of the colour and the energy of the brush strokes is what makes her still life painting outstanding.
What I admire about her, is that she never followed fashion or questioned her subject matter she painted what she wanted to paint. She painted what was inside her. I take inspiration from that.
